Professor Van Leeuwen joined the faculty of Eastern College in 1994. He teaches courses in the Pentateuch, Hebrew prophets, Psalms, wisdom literature, and biblical Hebrew, in addition to introductory surveys of the Old and New Testaments.
Prof. Van Leeuwen is a member of the American Schools of Oriental Research, the Chicago Society of Biblical Research, the Institute for Biblical Research, the National Association of Professors of Hebrew, the Society of Biblical Literature, and the Catholic Biblical Association. He is the author of two books, including "The Book of Proverbs" in the New Interpreter's Bible Vol. 5 (Abingdon, 1997), and of many scholarly and popular articles.
Before coming to Eastern, Prof. Van Leeuwen was for many years a member of the faculty at Calvin College and Calvin Theological Seminary. Prof. Van Leeuwen is ordained in the Christian Reformed Church, and is Associate Pastor of Trinity Christian Reformed Church in Broomall, PA.
Prof. Van Leeuwen is married to Dr. Mary Stewart Van Leeuwen, who is Professor of Psychology and Philosophy at Eastern University and Resident Scholar in the Center for Christian Women in Leadership. They are the parents of two adult sons, Dirk and Neil.
