Education

Prior to joining Eastern University, Dr. Sobukwe served as Visiting and then Assistant Professor at Rutgers University - Camden in the Department of Political Science and in the Department of Public Policy and Administration from 1997 until 2005. She has taught a wide range of courses in public management and international development as well as comparative and international politics. In the Templeton Honors College, Dr. Sobukwe teaches the second semester course HON 102: Justice, the Common Good, and Contemporary Issues.

Dr. Sobukwe is active in her church, First Corinthian Baptist and she chairs the Board of Directors of the First Corinthian Community Center. She is also the Chairperson of the U.S. Board of Directors of Mwamba Church Ministries International (based in Kenya) and she is an Advisory Board member of the Bright Lights Initiative. In addition, Dr. Sobukwe has worked with the Committee for the Advancement of Pan-Africanism (CAPA) for thirteen years serving most recently as an Executive Committee member and co-chair of the Women's Section of CAPA.

She is currently working on a book length manuscript assessing the influence of dynamic changes in race, class and religion within the African-American community on the prophetic tradition of African-American churches.
