Staff Profiles
Dr. Laura Hartley
Laura Hartley graduated with a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies from Wheaton College (IL) and then received her master's and doctorate in Linguistics with a specialization in sociolinguistics from Michigan State University. She taught for seven years in the Intercultural Relations program of Lesley University in Cambridge, MA and also worked as a Special Assistant to the President and as the university's Grants Officer during that time.
Dr. Hartley moved to the Philadelphia area in 2005 when her husband took a position as Assistant Professor of Christian Mission at Palmer Theological Seminary (the seminary of Eastern University). At that time, Dr. Hartley joined the faculty of Eastern University, teaching in the Communication Studies and Anthropology departments. She has both a personal and professional interest in intercultural communication and cross-cultural ministry. In May 2007, she joined the THC in the capacity of Director of Programs.
When she is not working, Dr. Hartley spends most of her free time with her two children, Luke (9) and Tess (6). She also enjoys working with her hands (doing activities such as scrapbooking, beading and home repair). Dr. Hartley lives in Upper Darby and is actively involved in Wayne United Methodist Church.
