Lucas E. Morel


 

Lucas E. Morel holds a Ph.D. in political science from The Claremont Graduate School (1994) and graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Government from Claremont McKenna College. His teaching and research interests are American government, political theory, Abraham Lincoln, and black American politics. Dr. Morel is a member of the scholarly advisory committee of the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, president of the Abraham Lincoln Institute, and a trustee of the Supreme Court Historical Society. In the 2008-09 academic year, he was the Visiting Research Fellow at the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton University. Dr. Morel also teaches in the Masters Program in American History and Government at Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio.

Dr. Morel is the author of Lincoln's Sacred Effort: Defining Religion's Role in American Self-Government (2000) and editor of Ralph Ellison and the Raft of Hope: A Political Companion to "Invisible Man" (2004). He has also written for the Lincoln Lore, Los Angeles Times, Christian Science Monitor, First Things, and Richmond Times-Dispatch. Dr. Morel has been a guest commentator on CNN's TalkBack Live and New Hampshire, Virginia, and Wisconsin Public Radio.
